TIRAU.
NEW ODDFELLOWS LODGE. The district officers of the Manchester Unity, Independent Order of Oddfellows, A.D., paid a visit to Tirau on Friday evening, the occasion being the opening of a hew lodge in the district, under the designation Loyall Patetere Lodge. 1 Bros. John McLeod and John Clark,! P.G.M.’s, and Bro. W. J. Neels,j P.P.G.M., duly conducted the dedicatory ceremony in an impressive manner. Fifteen new candidates were duly initiated into the Order and with about eight other members comprise* the new lodge. Visitors from all parts were present, and took part in the opening ceremony. The following officers were elected and installed in the usual impressive manner by Bro. W. J. Neels, P.P.G.M.: N.G., Bro. Guy Seton; V.G., Bro. C. Symes; G.M., Bro. W. H. Allen, P.G.; E.S. Bro. J. H. Harvie; P.S., Bro. W. C. Withers; Treasurer, Bro. S. A. J. Hamlin; licture master, Bro. N. Griffiths, P.G.; warden, Bro. W. J. McDonald; guardian, Bro. T. B. Gavin; R.S.N.G., Bro. B. Symes; L.S.N.G., Bro. M. Coubrough; R.S.V.G., Bro. J. Coubrough; L.S.V.G., Bro. C. Shaw. The newly installed officers received the honours of the Order, and congratulatory remarks were made by several visiting members from sister lodges, including the Matamata and Selwyn (Putaruru) lodges. Five new candidates were nominated for next meeting. The visitors were afterwards entertained at an impromptu smoke concert by the officers and members of the new lodge. THE BACHELORS’ BALL. The bachelors’ ball held at Tirau the other evening was a great success. About 70 couples were present, including many visitors from surrounding districts. The hall was beautifully decorated with streamers and greenery. Music was supplied by the Putaruru Railway Oi’chestra and extras were played by Mrs. A. Stewart, Miss Bowers and others. The ball was opened with the grand march, led off by Mr. J. W. Anderson and Mrs. Craig. A most sumptuous supper, supplied by the bachelors and prepared by a party of lady friends under the supervision of Miss Batley, was served. As M.’sC. Messrs. J. W. Anderson and G. Wilson acted admirably. WORKING BEE. In connection with the new court being made for the Tirau Tennis Club a largely-attended working bee was held last week-end in order to lay down the same. The concrete was mixed and spread by the many members present and everything left ready for the final step—a coating of tar which will he placed on it by outside labour. Tea and other refreshments were provided by lady members during the bee. PERSONAL.
Mr. G. Rollerson is back in charge of the railway station after a very enjoyable holiday. TIRAU’S ADVANCEMENT. Tirau is advancing slowly hut surely. A fine new concrete building is being erected opposite the post office by a butcher in the township. It will have a frontage of 16ft to the Cambridge road with a depth of to Rose street. The butchery will be divided into two psirts—a shop and office occupying the front portion and a sausage room, some 30 odd feet in depth, the rour.
