The carting of the timber from Putaruru to Arapuni was to start yesterday, an initial lot of 40,000 ft being taken out from the T.T.T. Company’s yard. The total amount of timber that will be used in the contracts is expected to total well over a million feet. The access road for the full length is being used for the carting, the laying of local rock with sand blinding on the previously unmetalled gap being completed yesterday.
Advice received in Putaruru indicates that the Government has advised the Armstrong, Whitworth Company that they may have a site for a private siding at the Putaruru railway station, but the location of the site will probably not be fixed till next week.
