ARAPUNI PROGRESS.

ERECTION OF HOUSES. Carting the Timber. Representing the Sir W. G. Armstrong, Whitworth Company, the Arapuni contractors, Mr. Saur.ders was in Putaruru on Monday and Tuesday arranging f» r b r for -he erection of houses for u„• s al" and workmen who will be engaged on 'he con tree's. f t is understood that one of the first jobs will be the erection by the end of the next two months of 14 more permanent houses ir the Arapuni village, while further temporary accommodation is also to be provided immediately on the Putaruru side of the river. The carting of the timber from Putaruru to Arapuni was to start yesterday, an initial lot of 40,000 ft being taken out from the T.T.T. Company’s yard. The total amount of timber that will be used in the contracts is expected to total well over a million feet. The access road for the full length is being used for the carting, the laying of local rock with sand blinding on the previously unmetalled gap being completed yesterday.

Advice received in Putaruru indicates that the Government has advised the Armstrong, Whitworth Company that they may have a site for a private siding at the Putaruru railway station, but the location of the site will probably not be fixed till next week.
