PUKETURUA-ARAPUNI.
PROGRESS OF ROAD WORK. Mr. Treanor Farewelled. The metalling of the portion of the Arapuni access road between the Waipa bridge and the 25-mile peg from Putaruru has been let by the Public Works Department to Mr. M. Henderson, who has several motor lorries and a number of horse teams with drays at present engaged in the work. This length of the road was previously sanded, and metal from Bent’s pit is being spread on top of .the sand. This will complete the first metalling for the full length of the road from Putaruru to Arapuni, after which the contractor for the headworks at Arapuni has to provide a final surfacing. At the Arapuni end of the road -the Huihuitaha stream bridge, round which there is meanwhile a low-level deviation, is now in the final stages of construction and should shortly be open for traffic.
A presentation took place a-t the “ bach ” at the dam site at Arapuni on Tuesday evening of last week, farewell being taken by the workmen and staff of Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Treanor, Mr. Treanor having been Public Works clerk at Arapuni and also the first postmaster there, and having resigned to take up farming in the Pukekohe district. On behalf of the company Mr. T. Rabone, the engineer in charge, presented Mr. Treanor with a travelling rug and extended good wishes to him for the future.
Church services are now being arranged at Arapuni, the Rev. C. W. Brown, of Putaruru, having taken the matter in hand.
