THE ROADS LOAN.

rUTARURU-I ICHFIELD. Raising- the Money. The matter of the raising of Ihe money for the remaining £SOOO of the Putaruru-Tokoroa loads metalling loan of £IO,OOO was discussed at Friday's meeting of the Matamata County Council. It was stated that the £SOOO already raised was being spent as follows: Puketurua roads, £2000; Overdale roads, £2000: Putaruru post office and O.aka bridge, £IOOO. Cr. K. S. Cox stated that the metalling of tkv Putaruru-Lichfield road would have to be done next spring. 1 his would take £3OOO of the remaining £SOOO yet to be raised. He understood that this £SOOO would be available from the State Advances Department next financial year. The clerk said th«. amount would be £-5000 odd. A-1700 having to go to the Tivau-Waiomo loan. Cr. Cox asked would the Council allocate £3OOO subsidy for the £3OOO to be spent on the Lichfield road, but the Council agreed that this question could not be dealt with until the total subsidy for next financial year was received from the Public Works Department. In reply to Cr. Cox the engineer said he hail yet had no confirmation as to whether the Tirau-Putaruru-Lichficld-Atiamuri road had been adopted as a main highway by the Highways j&oard and therefore there was no surety that the subsidy would be forthcoming from that source for the Putaruru-Lichfield metalling.
