THAMES VALLEY COSTS. A Gratifying Position. Five Per Cent. Below Estimates. A very • gratifying’ statement reyardiny the costs of the main scheme of reticulating the Thames Valley Electric Power Board’s vast area was made at Tuesday’s meeting- of the board by Mr. Gauvain, engineer. Mr. Gauvain stated that up to December 31, 1923, 276 miles of 11,000volt lines, J. 20 miles of 3300-volt lines and 306 miles of '450-volt lines had been erected and were working*. In addition 2)21 transformer stations had been erected and were running-. The amount of work completed was 82 per cent, of the whole work contemplated under the original scheme. Mr. Gauvain considered that the actual cost of the whole main scheme would be five per cent, below the estimated cost of £514,000, exclusive of interest during construction. The chairman said it was gratifying to hear that news. In New Zealand :it would be gratifying- if the cost came out at 5 per cent, on the other side.
