PUKETURUA.
NEW YEAR’S EVE DANCE. A dance promoted by some of the folk of Puketurua was held in the local schoolroom on Monday night, New Year’s Eve. It proved one of those jolly country occasions which everyone present enjoys very fullv. Mr. Alyward acted as M.C., while the principal musician was Mr. McKay (accordeon). Dance accompaniments were also played on the harmonium by Mrs. Pearson, Miss R. McGowan and Mr. C. Goebel. The ladies provided a tasty supper. At midnight the old year was fittingly fare welled by the singing of “ Auld Lang Syne ” by the company, which numbered about 20 couples, while at 1 a.m., appropriate to this new year of 192-J. a leap year dance took place, Tt proved great fun and made a good finale to a happy evening. ENGAGEMENT. The engage me it is announced of Miss Myra McGowan, second daughter of -Mr. rnd Mrs. A. A. McGowan, “ Brackendale,” Puketurua, to Mr. Claude F. McLisky, of Horahora Rapids.
