A NEW GOLD FIELD.
From all accounts, a goldfield of soiin* promise lias been discovered on the Ninety mile Beach. Last week an old digger visited Temuka, where lie showed some gold, which, lie stated, lie had found near the Milford lagoon. He said lie had had a try with a billy and piece of blanket, as a substitute for a cradle, and the piece of smelted gold which he exhibited was about the size of an almond. It is understood that further prospecting will be instituted, as it is believed the creeks in the vicinity arc more or less auriferous. The discovery of gold near Hampden is said to have turned out better than was expected. Nine men are on the ground already. Gold of rough and scaly nature is I found over an area of many hundred ; :iore3. With a two-hours’ supply of water, 12s or 14s per day per man was obtained last week.
