The Last Scene of All.
CLOSE OF THE EXHIBITION. Christchurch, Last Night. The ceremony of closing the Exhibition commenced at 9 o’clock this evening. The Acting-Premier road an address to the Governor, who replied in a speech reviewing the history of the Exhibition and pointing out its great importance, commercially and politically, to the colony, and industrially to the Empire. Lord Plunket explained the educational advantages of such an undertaking. Suitable recognition was made of the services rendered by the Commissioners and officials. At the conclusion of his address the Governor presented the various awards and then declared the Exhibition closed. The general public were allowed till midnight to finally inspect the exhibits, after which they quietly dispersed. The Exhibition orchestra gave a number of selections during the evening.
