A TERRIBLE FAMINE. Pekin, April 18. The famine in China has assumed terrible proportions. Three millions of people are nearing starvation, and the deaths number five thousand daily. Cannibalism is beginning to be practised, and parents are exchanging their children for something to eat About fifteen million dollars are required for relief purposes. China has contributed four millions, while another half million has been received from foreigners. It will be impossible to raise the rest of the required amount in China.
