The Thaw Trial.
AN EXPENSIVE CASE. THE JURY DISAGREE. New York, April 12. The jury in the Thaw murder case have been unable to agree, and were again locked up for the night. The trial has cost the Thaw family £200,000, and New York County £20,000. April 13. The jury in the Thaw case disagreed, and were discharged. April 14. At the Thaw trial seven of the jury favoured returning a verdict of murder in the first degree, while five were for acquittal on the ground of insanity. The newspapers, in commenting on the result, agree in deprecating the fact that justice in America has been impaired and delayed by the power of money, and the introduction of confusing and irrelevant issues. London, April 14. The Times remarks that the trial reveals facts explaining the strong animosity that exists towards a certain class of millionaires, who, knowing nothing of the duties of wealth, or the graces often coming in its train, end by seeking escape from boredom in unrefined excitements.
