TELEPHONE SPECIALS. Extensive Fire.
[Own Cobiiespondent.] . N.afibu, December 9. A twelve-roomed house at Redclifle, near Taradale. owned by Mr. Condy and occupied by Mr. W, Neal, dairy farmer, was burnt down yesterday at noon. The house was insured for /400 in the Victoria office, but was worth 600. Mr. Neal’s furniture was insured in the Northern office for /jioo, but the value with his dairy utensils was L2OO. The cause of the fire is unknown. Mr. Neal was in Napier at the time, and Mrs. Neal was outside the house when she observed the roof on fire. A curious circumstance was that yesterday afternoon Mr. Neal, unaware the fire had occured, effected an insurance on his dairy and dairy plant, and at the same time arranged for an endowment policy for his little girl, but returned to the office of the agent shortly afterwards, threw down the insurance papers, and said they were no use, as he had just learnt that his house and dairy had been destroyed by fire, and his little girl perished in the flames. He then rode homewards and found that his family were quite safe.
