[Per United Press Association.] Christchurch, December 8. An influential meeting re the West Coast railway was held last week, when it was decided to undertake perliminary arrangements for the construction of the line, and a committee was appointed to take the necessary steps. The meeting was private, and details have not transpired. Mr. Wakefield addressed a crowded meet ing in Leeston Town Hall, speaking for two hours and a half. Though at first coldly received and even hissed, he carried the meeting with him, aud was accorded a vote of thanks and renewed confidence by a very large majority.
