(Per Press Association.) Auckland, December 2. At the Magistrate’s Court yesterday James Evans was fined £lO or two months’ hard labor, for playing under and over at the Takapuna races.

A fire yesterday morning at Parnell destroyed a double shop occupied by O'Brien (baker) and George (grocer). The Rev, Abraham Ridings was again brought before the Magistrate’s Court on Saturday on a charge of indecently assaulting the boy William Chadwick. Superintendent Thompson said he had received a telegram from Maungaturoto that five charges of a similar nature, supported by ample evidence, would be laid against the prisoner, who was remanded till to-day.
