Wellington News.
[Own Correspondent.] Wellington, November 11. In consequence of Sir George Grey’s threat to move a vote of no-confidence Ministers detained the Te Anau till after the proceedings in the House had concluded yesterday, so as to have a sufficient majority to defeat Sir George Grey’s motion should he move it.
When the House met yesterday the galleries were crowded in expectation of Sir George Grey moving a resolution of no-confidence, but he abstained from doing so, though he spoke at considerable length, and used all the forms of the House to prevent the resolutions passing. There was a much larger attendance of members than on any previous last day of the session. The Court of Appeal sat yesterday and arranged the order of business. The weather for the holiday yesterday was wet and boisterous. The divers at work at the Lastingham found an arm with a wedding ring on one finger of the hand. The other part of the body is out of sight, but the arm is supposed to be that of the captain’s wife. The Hon. W. H. Nurse is much better. The Governor’s departure for Christchurch has been postponed till to-morrow. He was going by the Wakatipu yesterday afternoon, but was detained in consequence of the prolonged sitting of the House, as he had to wait for the appropriation bills being brought down by the Speakers, and had to hold an Executive Council afterwards.
