Lord Wilton, Malua, Merrimu, Off Color, Plausible, Signor, The Broker, The Plunger, Tremando, Vergy, and Hippogriff. At the first attempt all got well away together, Hilltop, Hastings, Anchorite and Boolka being next the rails on the far side, with the Hon. J. White’s pair in the centre, and Commotion lying on the whip hand of Bargo. As they came to the tan Boolka was slightly to the front with Hilltop, Anchorite, Lord Wilton and Hastings close up. Passing the stand for the first time Hilltop and Signor were well in front, closely attended by Anchorite, Bargo, Plausible, Commotion, and Bristol, with Claptrap running last. When they had reached the round turn by the saltwater river Signor gave way to Lord Wilton, and Battailous at the same time made an effort. Bargo and Commotion were now lying side by side, and Malua well within himself. The field ran thus to the far side, where Hastings momentarily showed to the front, with Anchorite, Boolka, Plunger, the Hon, W. Pearson’s two, and Malua following in the order named. Little change occurred until passing the scraping sheds, where Blink Bonny made an effort, Hilltop, Hastings, and Bargo following, and the others well up. In coming into the straight Plunger had a slight lead of Commotion. Hastings, Hilltop, and Plausible were lying side by side, Bargo and Malua being in the centre of the course. As they came to the distance post Commotion drew away from Plunger, and Robertson who had patiently ridden Malua, just called on the horse, who answered in the gamest fashion, and won easily, a length in front of Commotion, with Plausible a good third. Hastings 4, Boolka 5, Anchorite 6, and the others straggling behind. The betting at the post was Hastings, 5 to 1; Malua, 6to 1; Plausible and Vergy, 10 to 1; Bargo and Blinkbonny, 14 to 1; Claptrap, Commotion, Tremendo, and Anchorite, 20 to 1; others, 100 to 3.
