He was kept waiting an hour and a half before his injuries were attended to. The house surgeon at the time was attending on an operation, but one of the medical-staff passed the boy and allowed him to remain unattended to because it was not his work. Mr. Thomas Bracken delivered his lecture on “ The triumph of democracy ” at the Opera House on Friday night, under the auspices of the Liberal Association, but as a charge was made for admission, the men who clamour so much for reform took good care to be absent when their pockets were appealed to. The small attendance was very enthusiastic. The master of the Waitaki having complied with the Seamen’s Federated Union rules, the crew returned to work and she proceeded on her usual trip to Wangarei.
