[Own Correspondent.] Wellington, October 8. ,It is reported that the reason for the vacant portfolio not being filled up is in consequence of an understanding with Sir George Grey that the appointment should be given to a member of his party, but the Canterbury members are still determined that Captain Morris should have the appointment.
