Serious Mining Accident.

4, THREE MEN BURIED ALIVE. (Per Press Association.) Kumar a, September 19. A minim? accident occurred on AA’ednesday, between 11 and 12, at the Terrace near the junction of Greenstone Creek with the Teramakau river, on the south side. Three men— Edward Boven, James Dwan, and Daniel McNamara—were working in a drive, which caved in. Not coming home to tea a search went out, when it was found they were all | entombed. The miners at once set to work I to extricate them by two drives from the tunnel. Bowen could be heard from one drive, and Dwan from another. About two o’clock on Thursday morning, Bowen was extricated, and it was expected Dwan would be rescued about eleven. McNamara was not to be heard, and as he was only 10 feet from Bowen, he is supposed to be killed. Bowen is suffering from his long incarceration and non-circulation, being jammed on to a truck by a slab, which again was only supported by a half inch prop. The miners are working vigorously to rescue the other two. Later news from Cape Terrace says, Dwan was released at 9.45 a.m., and walked out not much hurt. Although caught in the debris, he managed to crawl into an open place, where he could stand upright. It is thought McNamara will be got out at about 3 p.m., but there is no expectation of his being found alive.
