Webb's Royal Marionettes.

(from our special correspondent.) Auckland, September 17. Webb’s Royal Marionettes proceed to Gisborne per Te Anau on Friday, and open at Parnell and Boylan’s Hall on Saturday. They played to a crowded house here last night.

We have been requested to draw attention to a decidedly mixed “ notice ” in our contemporary’s last issue, purporting to refer to Webb’s Royal Marionette Troupe, which is advertised to open at Parnell and Boylan’s Hall on Saturday evening. To record half the epithets that have been applied to the editor of the Herald would fill several columns, which, owing to pressure on our space to day we are unable to afford. The agent, however states that he would like to have the editor on wires for one night, as he could then show the public a dancing exhibition which would opentheir eyes. The paragraph respecting the manager having to “ fly for his life” &c., refers to the “ Levity ” Marionettes, and the notice from which the extract was taken concludes thus :—“ The best thing that Webb's Royal Marionettes can do is to go straight to Ballarat and produce the genuine article, and if the people there have any appreciation, and can di... tinguish the good f om the bad, they will not fail to applaud the Royal (the Company announced in our co'urn ns) as vehemently as they denounced [the Levity.” All the reports that have come under our notice give unbounded praise to Webb’s Royal Marionettes. We will reproduce some of the critiques to-morrow.
