Small-Pox.

INSPECTION OF TWO SHIPS. AN UNFOUNDED REPORT. THREE FRESH CASES. [reuter’s telegrams.] Melbourne, August 15. Three more cases of suspected small-pox were yesterday reported to the Health officer. [Per United Press Association.] Wellington, August 16.

The Health officers to-day inspected the Te Anau before she came alongside the wharf, and also the barque Sophia Luhrs, from Newcastle. In both;cases everybody on board was found to be in good health. Reports having been published that ths doctor in charge of the quarantine station at Napier han been negligent in his duties to the small-pox patient Mouatt, the Colonial Secretary wired to the Mayor of Napier, and the following report was received “ Have had daily written reports from the doctor at the quarantine station, and he has been seen every day by orderlies. He also visited at uncertain hours both day and night. I can positively contradict the rumor.”

Regarding the small-pox epidemic in London, the St. James' Gazette of June 6‘h says: ‘‘ It appears from the Registrar-Gene*al’s last weekly return, that on the last day of May 1057 small-pox patients were under treatment in the various institutions of the Metropolitan Asylum Board. The cost for “ labor ” only attendant on the removal to and maintenance at the quarantine station of the small-pox patient was £9 2s. per day made up as follows Dr. Jackson £5, two male attendants, £2, one female ditto 10s, three special constables on sentry duty £1 12s.
