AUSTRALIANS V. KENT. [reuter’b telegrams.] London, August 4. The Australian cricketers began the twentythird match of their tour to-day at Canterbury, where they met for the first time an Eleven of the County of Kent, composed as follows : —Lord Harris, Messrs. Christopherson, L. Pecimbe, McKinnon, A. Penn, C. Wilson, Kemp, G. G. Hearne, F. Hearne, Wooton, and A. Hearne. The weather was splendid, and there was a large attendance of spectators. The wicket was in good order. The home team went in first, and their innings slosed for 169 ; Wilson being highest scorer with 37 (bowled). The Australians then went to the wickets, and at the close of the day had run up 136, with only 4 wickets down. Murdoch made 24 (caught), and McDonnell was not out with 80 to his credit.
