[Per United Press Association,] THE LICENSING ACT. Auckland, July 11. The Licensed Victuallers have resolved to support the introduction into an amended Licensing Act, the following provisions :— “ That the Electoral Roll shall be the roll to be used at the elections for Licensing Commissioners, That if Licensing Commissioners shall refuse the renewal of any license on the ground that the house was not required, the owner of such house shall be entitled to fair compensation for such refusal. That any person feeling agrieyed at the decision of the Licensing Commissioner, he shall have a right to appeal to a higher Court.” FOUND DEAD. Wellington, July 11. At an inquest on the body of John Webby, found dead at Oriental Bay yesterday, a verdict of accidental death was returned. Evidence given went to show that deceased was subject to epilip tic fits. SUPREME COURT. At the Supreme Court William Cameron was acquitted on a charge of obstructing the public highway by building a dwelling house and store thereon, A JURY LOCKED UP ALL NIGHT. Dunedin, July 11. In the Supreme Court, the jury in the case of McCombe, charged with sheep stealing, although locked up all night, were unable to agree, and a new trial is fixed for Monday. Margaret Smith (larceny) and John Pearce (abducting a girl) were found not guilty. Maria Scanlan, for house breaking, received twelve months imprisonment. Lizzie Massey (burglary) three months; Margaret Massey (burglary) was sent to the industrial school for two years. FATAL ACCIDENT. Blenheim, July 11. A station hand named Stokes was killed yesterday, in Awatere, by a fall from his horse. Deceased was subject to fits.
