The Fugitive Offenders Act.
[Per Press Association.] Wellington, June 4. An order under the Fugitive Offenders Act has just been issued from the Defence Office, the Minister notifying that in all cases where proceedings for the apprehension and surrender of a fugitive under the provisions of the above-mentioned Act are instituted by or on behalf of a private prosecutor, or where such apprehension and surrender are sought at the instance of a person who is not acting under authority or by direction of the Crown, such private prosecutor or person shall alone be responsible for all expenses of and incidental to such apprehension and surrender, and no claim for any such expenses will be allowed as against the Government. It is further notified, however, that in all cases where the assistance of the police is required, they will be instructed to act upon obtaining from the person or persons requiring such assistance a guarantee in such form as may be approved by the department.
