The Soudan War.

FURTHER DEFEAT OF THE REBELS. [Reuters Telegrams.] Cairo, June 2. Despatches to hand from the Governor of Dongola state that an engagement has been fought between the garrison at Berber and the rebels, in which the latter were defeated with heavy loss. Information has been received from Khartoum that General Gordon continues to hold out against the besiegers, and has been successful in various engagements. Telegrams from Suakim report that a body of rebels approached that town, and a fusilade lasting two hours was kept up with them, after which the rebels retired. Later.—Telegrams from Berber state that in consequence of the recent successes of the garrison, the rebels have raised the siege and retired from the neighborhood. The country round Berber is now in a state of comparative quiet.
