Political News.

Theue is nothing particularly fresh to report with regard to the candidates. At Mohaka last night Mr, Locke received an encouraging reception. A wire from him to-day says:—“Most enthusiastic meeting; unanimous vote of confidence ; block vote here; return Frasertown to-morrow.” He may therefore be expected to speak at Frasertowu to-morrow night, and will then return to this place. On Saturday night he addresses the electors at Makaraka, and will proceed up to Tologa Bay next week. Up to the present we have had no news of Mr. Gannon’s meeting at the Mahia, where he addressed a meeting last night. He left that place to-day, and is expected to arrive here to-night. Mr. Rees is etill in town, though evidently not asleep. We expect to see a crowded meeting tonight at MTarlane’s Hall, when Sir George Grey will deliver an address to the public, backing up Mr. Rees in his candidature for the East Coast seat. [Per Press Association.] Wellington, June 4. The Address-in-Reply will be moved on Tuesday next, by Dr. Newman. It is not definitely known who will be the seconder. Dunedin, June 4. Mr. Fish, M.H.R., has been presented with an address and a purse of 120 sovs. from his political friends and admirers. Auckland, June 4. Mr. Tole addressed the Eden constituents last night. He said he would continue fighting under Sir George Grey, and would not assist to turn out the Government, however simply, to please Canterbury. Christchurch, June 4.
