A MIXED REPORT.

Some years ago a reporter furnished the paper with which he was connected, with an account of the presentation of a gold-headed cane to the Rev. Doctor Mudge, the clergyman of the place, and also a description of a new hog-killing machine that had just been put in operation at the factory. Now what happened was this The inconsiderate compositor who made up the formes got the two accounts mixed up in a frightful manner, and when the formes went to press, something like this was the appalling result: —“ Some of Rev. Mudge’s friends called on him yesterday, and after a brief consultation the unsuspecting hog was seized by the hind legs and slid along the beam until it reached the hotwater tank ; his friends explained the object of their visit, and presented him with a handsome gold-headed butcher, who grabbed him by the tail, and swung him round, aid in less than a minute, his carcase was in the water. Therefore he came forward and said there were times when the feelings overpowered one, and for that reason he could do no mcie than attempt to thank those around him for the manner in which such an animal was cut up in fragments was astonishing. The Doctor concluded his remarks, the machine seised him and in less time than it takes to write it, the hog was cut into fragments and worked into delicious sausages. The occasion will be re* membered by the Doctor’s friends as one of the most delightful of their lives. The best pieces can b€ obtained for 7d. a pound, and we are sure those who sat under his ministry will rejoice to hear, that he has been so handsomely treated.” Our readers can imagine the indignation of the Rev. Doctor, on perusal of the above con* glomoration.
