SPORTING- ITEMS.
Cahill, the jockey who was hurt in the Wanganui Steeplechase on Tuesday, is progressing favourably. The football match Zingari Club (Dunedin) v. Christchurch College Club, resulted in a tie, each side scoring the same number of points. The chief event at the Waipukurau Races, was won by Mr. McKersey’s Breeze. The chief Handicap at Petane, was won by Assagi. Telegrams to hand from Sydney state that the Now Zealand Football team met with a most enthusiastic reception on landing. They play their first match at Paramatta to-day, the opposing team consisting of the representatives of twenty local clubs. The following are the principal sums paid over on the late Dunedin races :—Stevenson, £175 ; D. O’Brien, £l5O ; H. Sherwin, £l3O : Hon. G. M‘Lean, £lOO : H. Goodman, £BO ; R. W. Mason, £7O; W. Streeter, £GO; A. Smith, £55; M. H. Smith, £5O; G. Bate, £5O G. Rutherford, £5O. 1
