THE FINN MEDAL COMPETITION.
The third and final competition for this medal took place on Saturday afternoon. With the exception of a slight haze, which tended to make the sighting somewhat difficult, the weather was all that could be wished, a statement that is fully verified by the results of the day’s shooting, showing, as it does, a much higher average of points than that attained at the two previous stages. The competitors were very careful in their firing, taking long and steady aim. This was more especially apparent at the last two ranges of 400 and 500 yards, when Morrison (1) made some good shooting, scoring twenty-four at the former range out of a possible twenty-five points. Hanson, generally good at the long shot, fell away altogether, and it was soon seen that his chance of winning the muchcoveted medal was small indeed. On the last shot being fired, the marksmen eagerly clustered around Captain Winter, with a view of ascertaining the totals, and to hear the declaration of the handicapping, for until this was done it was impossible to declare the name of the fortunate winner.--But they were doomed to disappointment, for Captain Winter informed them that, owing to an oversight, the handicap list had been left locked up in Captain Porter’s safe, access to which could not be had until that gentleman’s return from the Coast. The following are the total scores;—
1st Com. 2nd Com, 3rd Coin. Tl. Hansen .. 74 62 72—208 Morrison (1) ., 71 58 77—201 Nash, A. ,, 61 54 82—197 Warren ., 55 61 08—184 Stark ., 63 58 04—184 Allom ,, 49 60 73—182 O’Meara ., 53 59 65—177 Morrison (2) .. 61 58 56-175 Winter 69 50 48—167
