Sir,—l have the bouor to report as follows :—

Bussell Road.— l have inspected this road as ordered, and found that to till up hollows ami provide for proper drainage would cost £l5. At the present time there is a good opportunity of doing this work, as some of the sand now being removed in Roebuck Road could be used for filling up. Loive. Street Bridge.— l think this bridge « m be pa’ched up and made safe for the pre. sent for Lhe sum of £lO.

As to the work authorised at last meeting, the footpath in Roebuck Road (between Gladstone and Childer’s Road) is being proceeded with. The pipes in Grey Street and the drain through Borough reserves will shortly be attended to. Many of the drains in the Borough are being choked with water-cress, and I would suggest that tenders be called for the clearance of water-cress from the following drains :—Drain along Waikanae boundary from Bright Street to near the wharf, about 30 chains ; outlet drain from large box culvert, Gladstone Road (section 162) to Waikanae (about 75 chains). Contract Aberdeen Ro >d.— The contractor is making pretty good progress with the shingling. The quality of the shingle is rather better than when I last reported. Disraeli Street.— The work on this contract has been going on moie briskly since my last report, and, as an effort now seems being made to get the work finished, I recommend that an extension of time (30 days) be granted to this contractor. Pai/ments.— I recommend a progress payment (the sixth) of £BO to C. McDevitt; aj 8 o a progress payment of £3O (the fourth) to g. Doleman, conditionally on the extension o f time recommended above being granted.

Tutchen seconded, “ That the work in Russell Street be done at once.” Cr. J. Brown moved, as an amendment, “ That no public money be spent on the road.” Cr.
