POVERTY BAY HOSPITAL.
Tn a usual monthly meeting of tho above committee took place last evening in the Courthouse Present—Messr, W Adair (in the Chair) J Booth, G Matthewson, Nolan, M’Kay, Dr Pollen, Jobson and Brown The minutes of the pevious meeting were read and confirmed Waudbb’s Kbfort—The Ward,man’s report was then read, showing the admission, 2, discharged 5, remaining 2 j patients fee, received L 4 5s The report was adopted Tubasuiujb’s Kbpohi—Tho following report was then send and adopted • The amount available for the payment of the accounts is L 49 17, 5d 1 have also paid tho L3OO received from Mr Barker and Mr MoDonaid, into the general account at the Bank of New Zealand The amount of subsidy due to the Hospital is LlB2 6s 5d This I have applied to tho Government for It should reach here about the 22nd I would suggest that on receipt of tbo subsidy, L3OO be placed on fixed deposit for 3 months The December subsidy will be duo at tho same time as the fixed deposit matures, you can then invest the L6OO E K Bbowk Paymbnts Tho following payments were then paised i McKay, LI 7s; Quinlan, LI 10s ; Townley, L 3 ; Pollen, L 25 ; E K Brown, L 3 8s 4d ; Chrisp, L 8 6s 8d ; Adams, Ils ; Domestic, L 4 5s ; Craig, 19s lOd ; Aislabic, L 3 19s lid; J R Morgan, Ll 6 6s 6d The Secretary wished to know who authorised the expenditure of the last account Mr E K Brown explained that it was according to an agreement which had been come to between the old Committee and Mr Bull re fencing the Hospital Reserves Dr Pollen thought that it was u very undesirable proceeding, and a groat waste of Hospital property Mr E. K. Brown explained that Mr Bull had been granted the use of the reserve for 7 years, providing he supplied the Hospital with vegetables and kept tha ground in order.
Dr Pollen thought it was a pity that this should have been fenced off, and wished to know if the patients had the privilege of walking in the ground. Mr E. K. Brown replied “yes,” providing they did no harm. The following gentlemen were appointed Visiting Committee for the month: —Messrs Graham, Jobson, and Matthewson. Mr Jobson proposed, and Mr Matthewson seconded, a cordial vote of thanks to the Ball Committe, Volunteers, and all others who so generously assisted in bringing the affair to such a successful issue.
Mr E K Brown proposed, and Mr McKay seconded, that a letter be written to Messrs Barker and McDonald, individually, thanking them for their munificient donation to the Hospital—Unanimously carried
A letter was read from Mr E P Paviour, Secretary to the Ormond Sports Committee, asking the patronage of the Hospital Committee to the above sports to be held at Ormond on New Year’s Day, the proceeds of which would be handed over to the Hospital, after defraying expenses The request was agreed to This concluded the meeting
