FINE ART AND INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION.

A Committee Meeting of the ’ abore wa» held laat night at tho Library rooms. Mr Bigley, in tho chair, stated that the Secretary had not prepared any formal minutes. He then read out the name, of those on the Exhibition Committee. He would like Mr Croll's name to the Committee, as he (Croll’s) had stated that ho would do anything he could for it. Mr Murchie said ha would second it. Mr Croll's name was therefore added. Mr Featon said Mr P. Bioliardson’, name ought to be down, as he had exhibited before. This name was therefore also added, The Chairman stated that as there were 9 departments would it not be advisable to name any certain person to be appointed to look more after each department. Perhaps gentlemen would volunteer to do so, Mr Murchie thought that 4 of the departments might be knocked into two. Ha would recommend that a flower show be held one evening, and a Committee for the same be appointed as follows ; —Messrs Pollen, Bently, Bull and File. The Chairman thought to get on with the business, the better plan would be to name the persons for each department. The following gentlemen were named and appointed for the separate departments inDepartment A—Messrs McAra and Bourko Department B—Messrs Bull, Bently, File and Pfllen Department o—Messr, Finncran, Warren, Cooper, Harris and Ferris Department D—Messrs Pollen and Bullock Departments E and F—Messrs Good, Croll and Townley Department & — Messrs Murohie and D

Johnston Department H—Messrs Kurtain, M Smith, Bead, G L Sunderland and Smaill Department I — Messrs Finnoran, Cooper, Harris, Ferris and Warren

The Chairman then stated that he hoped to have a meeting of the Committee for the Art Union to-morrow night. He did not know how the prizes were coming in Considerable discussion here took place on the subject The Chairman asked whether it would be advisable to send post cards to intending exhibitors, as it had been suggested. Mr Pinfold did not think it would pay, and there was hardly time for it. Mr Finneran thought that it' was better to trust to the energies of those who looked the matter up, in the country. Mr Murohie thought the papers could do all for them if they took the matter up. A list of some intending exhibitors was next read by the Chairman.

It was decided to send for the exhibit, and also to return them with the greatest posible care.

Mr Featon was of opinion tliae a catalogue of exhibits should bo comp led and given to thy Secretary.

Mr Pinfold said he had seen the Mayor, who had nu objection to opening the show in the atfernoon at 3 o’clock, and he was willing to declare that day a half holiday, if they would get up a requisition for the same. It was decided therefore to open the show at 3 o,clock.

Tho Chairman suggested that a comic exhibition be held one evening such as comic pictures, &o.

Mr Featon said with regard to decorations, he estimated the coat of doing the same to be about £2, as they would have to obtain the services of Mr Ballantyne aenr, to paint some mottos, Ac, Banners &c, could be obtained elsewhere with a little paper, paint, and calico tho place would look splendid It was agreed to go to the expense of having refreihmont, provided The next meeting will be held in the new Library buildings this day week
