HAWSE’S SAT SPRING MEETING. (From our own Correspondent.) NAPIER, Wednesday, The Napier Jockey Club’s Spring Meeting was held on Tuesday and Wednesday last, and was attended with must unfavorable weather. A steady downpour of rain commenced about 8 a.m, on Tuesday, and continued during both days, under the circumstances the attendance may be considered good, the grand stand being crowded to excess. The racing was excellent, and some of the finishes were extremely exciting. The following arc the results : — Hawke’s Bay Guineas Russell’s Escopeta, Bst 51b (Robertson 1 Nairn’s Oberon, Bst 101 b 2 .Douglas’ Briar, Bst 51b 8 Jacob also ran j Snider and Majory were atratched. Jacob got the best of a good start, ond led to the sheds, when he was passed by Escopeta, who maintained the lead and finished an easy winner by 6 lengths,--Time, Imm 52 secs. Dividend, £1 17s Handicap Hurdle Rack. Reihana’s Doubtful (McCoy) 1 Gilpin’s Pastime 2 Douglas' Loch Lomond 3 Doubtful took the lead over the first hurdle, closely followed by Loch Lomond, Fear Not, and Lady Bab in the order named. Dayrell and Juliet both fell at the third hurdle j Pastime now took third place. After rounding the turn for home the issue was never in doubt, it being easily seen that Doubtful, who was well ridden by Pat McCoy, had the race iu hand. Pastime running a good second, Loch Lomond well up for third place. Dividend, LIO 6s

Hack Hurdle Race. Nasmith’s Gundagai 1 Hurricane 2 Sussex 3 Come Again also started. Spring Handicap. Martin’s Leonata Bst 31b (Clifford) 1 Russell’s Leonora Bst 101 b ... 2 Reihana’s The Laird 7st 81b ... 3 An even start was effected. Leonata soon showed in front, with Leonora, Tim Whiffler, Kalo, Kingask, Rangipo next, and Lone Hand last. At the turn Kalo pushed in front, Rangipo and The Laird improved their positions at the sheds. Leonata and Leonora then drew away from the rest, and a grand struggle for first place then ensued, Leonato only winning by a nose from Leonora, The Laird being a bad third.—Time, 2min. 54secs. Dividend £3. Maiden Plate. Escopeta (71bs penalty) 1 Hc.etaunga 2 Kuni 3 Fearnot, Heretaunga, and Escopetea alternately made the running to the home turn, when the latter came away without an effort, and won easily—Time, 2miu 29secs. Dividend £1 17s. Flying Stakes. Leonora Bst 101 b (Robertson) ... 1 Yankee 7st 71b 2 Mischief 9st 71b 3 Kingask took the lead, followed by Kalo, Yankee, and Mischief. At the railway turn Kalo fell back beaten, and Kingask soon after retired. At the home turn Leonora came away with a big rush, and won by a couple of lengths from Yankee. Mischief a good third.
