GISBORNE FOOTBALLERS.
Wk were much pleased to see the improvement which had been made among the footballers, since the last week of practice, on Saturday afternoon last. When the team elected to play against Napier was first made known, it was generally admitted that “ our boys ” would be beaten, but since the good play shown on last Saturday afternoon, the opinion of most is that the forthcoming match will be a hotly contested one on both sides. The match on Saturday was about the best of the season, eleven captained by J. Berry, as against 19 captained by H. Bull. As previously stated a splendid game ensued, both sides rapidly running the scores. The great feature that attracted much applause and comment was the neat way in which the ball was passed from one to the other, and we hope to see them even better. After four spells of 20 minutes the result was a victory "i for the eleven by one try. The Napier football team left last night for here by the Omapere, and will arrive this morning, the match will very' likely take place to-morrow afternoon, in Captain Tucker's paddock.
