(FXR UNITED niSS AUOCUTIOg), WELLINGTON, Yesterday. Before commencing business in the Supreme Court this morning, Judge Richmond referred In most feeling terms to the memory of Sit Geo. Arney, late Chief Justice of New Zeh> land, and whose death is announced by cable. Ten members of the bar were present. Judge Richmond said the news had caused quite • shock to him, though he had known for Some time of the doceuea's illness. He mentioned that his connection with Sir George bad been of a most pleasant nature. In referring to the many admirable qualities possessed by Bir George, Judge Richmond said the Bar sustained a great loaa by hi* death. Mr Travers, senr., on behalf of the Bar, concurred with the remark* which had fallen from Hi* Honor. A respectably-dreuad young man named Fred Sayers wm to-day sentenced to four months’ imprisonment on two charge* of false pretences. It is understood that Sayers i* related to a former Governor of New Zealand.
