CHRISP AND TUCKER AS A HARBOR BOARD.
10 THE EDITOR, Bix,—l see that at the last meeting of the Harbor Board Mr Tucker made a suggestion which, if carried out, would acknowledge the claim of Common, Shelton, and Co. to a certain extent If such a step be taken I am of opinion that Common, Shelton, and Co. should only be allowed for the addition made since the agreement. Then Mr Chrisp says that be thinks the Government will not hand over the foreshore till a settlement would be made with Com. mon, Shelton, and Co.; if so, why should it be so ? If Mr Chrisp's edging in favor of Common, Shelton, and Co., and to the detriment of the ratepayers, be his mode of action, the sooner his term of office expires the better. What claim Common, Shelton, and Co. have on the Harbor Board I am at a loss to know. It is quite evident that Read’s Trustees, Mr Adair, and Mr Sam Stevenson would not dispose of it as easy as they have done if they for one moment thought they had any claim on the Borough. Besides, this document on which Common, Shelton, and Co. build such strength is not worth the paper and ink used in it. I shonld advise Mr Chrisp to join issue with Mr Allan McDonald’s recommendation, if he wishes to carry out his intention.—Yours, &c., Ratepayer,
