Arrived, yesterday morning—The Orient steamship Liguria, from Plymouth, December 30th. It is umderatood here that Sir J’ulius Vogel has had an interview with Giles, the explorer, irith a view to placing a large tract of eountwy in the London market. It is understood that in view of more favorable indications of the London money market, the Government will place the balance of the four million loan at an early date. It is expected that the London financier, will re-quire that Victorian loans be limited for thia year to £6,000,000. A board was appointed to conduct trials of the Westinghouse and Woods automatic brakes wiih a view to determine thefr relative efficiency, and has reported in favor of the Westinghouse as superior at all points. The board nevertheless recommend Wood's brake a. more suitable to Victorian Railway', on account of its simplicity of design, and stability of the various parts. SYDNEY, Feb. 10. The Intercolonial Cricket Match, Victoria and New South Wales, was resumed, and concluded to day, and resulted in a victory for the Victorians by one innings and 165 runs. The Victorians in their first innings scored 281. The New South Wales team then went in for their first innings, but only succeeded in putting together 49, and in their second innings were all disposed of for 67. The wicket was wot, and owing to the unavoidable absence of Bannerman, New South Wales played with 10 men only. Heavy rain has fallen over the greater part of the Colony. This day. A tram accident occurred here on Saturday, and several persons were slightly injured. ADELAIDE, Feb. 10. Two gentlemen were drowned while yachting in the Vincent Gulf. Later. One of the gentlemen who were drowned while yatching yesterday was father of the Hon. Thos. King, late Minister of Education.
