The afternoon train on Saturday from Brunner to Grey, consisting of about 16 coal trucks, break van, and three passenger carriages, met with a serious accident crossing the Motumotu Bridge. Some of the coal wagons got off the track about 50 yards before reaching the bridge. The engine and eight wagons and the passenger cars remained on the line. The other wagons jumped from sleeper to sleeper, cutting some in two, and a great many axles, boxes, and springs were broken, and about 90 feet of line completely stripped of sleepers, and the rails twisted and broken. On Saturday night he went to hfs hotel, at 1 o’clock he went out of the bed-room undressed, and has not been seen sinca. He has been in a despondent state for some time; and it is believed he committed suicide by drowning himself in the river.
