CAIRO, January 4» The remainder of the prisoners who have been in custody since the termination of the rebellion have been amnestied by the Khedive. LONDON, Jan, J. The negotiations which have been proceeding between France and England for the settlement of the Egyptian question have been closed without an agreement having been arrived at. The English Government, however, have issued a circular in which it explains its intention with regard to Egypt, and invites the powers to recognize the friendly principle of the free navigation of the Suez Canal. The National Bank of New Zealand has declared a dividend of 3 per cent, for the past half-year. The total reserve in the Bank of England this day in notes and bullion is £9,700,000. There is a decrease of £709,000 since last Thursday. The proportion of reserve to liabilities lias further fallen to 30 per cent. It has been decided that a British force shall remain in Zululand for a period of six months for the protection of Cetewayo on his reinstatement as King. PARIS, Jan. 5. The body of the late M. Gambetta is now lying in state at the Palais Bourbon, in the Rue de I’Universitie. Thousands of persons have vfsited the Chambers to pay xespect to the deceased statesman. The death is announced to-day of General Chanzy, aged CO.
