MELBOURNE, Jan. 5. Messrs C. S. Ross and Co. of this city report having sold a cargo of kauri timber, ex Fleet wing, at an average price of 14s 9d per | 100 feet super, for hewn logs. ADEL AIRE, Jan. 5. Wheat, steady, at 4« lOd 1 town flour, advanced to £ll 3s ; country brands, to £ll ss. Freight to Londori (steamer) fallen to 20s. Freight to United Kingdom, from Adelaide, 36s s ditto, from outports, 40s; freight for cereals rather firm, but for general cargo rather weaker. The steamship Victorian, 715 tons, owned by the Adelaide Steamship Co., came into collision to-day with the snip Gainsborough 874 tone. The latter sustained severe damage.
His Excellency Sir F. D. Jervois was entertained at luncheon here ptlot to his departure for New Zealand. In replying to the toast of his health, he dwelt upon the prospects of the Colony in an able and exhaustive speech, and expressed confidence in its future development. This day. At the public luncheon given to Sir Wm. Jervois, yesterday, one hundred and eighty persons were present, including Ministers and Judges, and leading citizens. His Excellency, in his speech, urged caution in borrowing, favored immigration, and advocated federation of the Australian Colonies.

Mr Alexander Stuart has succeeded in forming a Ministry, and it is announced that the various portfolios have been allotted as followsA. Stuart, Premier and Colonial Secretary ; Sir P. Jennings, Vice-President Executive Council (without portfolio); Hon. VV. R. Dailey, Attorney-General ; G. R. Dubbs, Colonial Treasurer; J. 8. Farrell, Secretary for Lands; H. Copeland, Secretary for Public Works; — Abbott, Secretary for Mines i W. E. Cohen, Minister of Justice ) G. H. Reid, Minister of Public Instruction; F. A. Wright, PostmasterGeneral. The majority of the re-elections have been fixed for Tuesday next, and the Ministry will meet the House on the 18th inst. It is generally considered that the New Ministry is weak, and unlikely to hold office for any length of time.
