Gladstone made his promised statement regarding the proposed settlement of affairs in Egypt. In the course of his speech he announced that negotiations are now proceeding with a view to the conclusion of an Anglo-Egyptian convention, providing that Egypt shall be charged with the cost of the British occupation, and fixing definitely the period of suoh occupation. In the debate which followed, Sir Stafford Nor ch cote complained that the Premiers statement was incomplete. Consols have recovered yesterday’s fall, and arc again quoted at 102]. New Zealand securities continue firm at yesterday’s quotations. Adelaide wheat is unchanged at 49s ex store. New Zealand wheat is 43s to 465. Adelaide flour is at 33s fid. Australian tallow is quiet—best beef is worth 425, and best mutton, 43s fid. Nov. 15. A Parnellite candidate named Kenny has boon elected to the vacant seat in the House of Commons for the constituency of Ennis. Obituary—The Right Hon. Sir Andrew Buchanan, G.C.8., K.C.8., formerly ambassador at Berlin, St. Petersburg and Vienna. In the House of Commons to-day, a resolution, proposed by Mr Gladstone for the reform of the procedure of the House, were again under consideration. After a further debate the second rule providing that motions for adjournment cannot be made before the public business has been entered upon, was voted, after some mitigation of the stringency of the rule ?had been agreed to by the Premier. Ten persons who were arrested on suspicion of concerned in the murder of six members of the Joyce family at Maantrasna, County Galway, on the 18th August last, have been brought up for trial at Dublin. The prisoners have been arraigned separately and the trial of the first was concluded today, the prisoner being found guilty. BERLIN, Nov. 13. The German Diet was opened to-day by the Emperor William, who, in his speech on the occasion, stated that the peace of Europe might now be deemed to be assured.
