NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. The Supreme Court was opened yesterday by Judge Gillies. Only three cases for trial, viz. ; John Danesty, for stealing a watch from John Mulholland, at Normanby, was found guilty, and sentenced to 2 years’ hard labor. J. Hislop, alias O’Connor, for forgery and uttering, to 12 months’ hard labor.

The charge of murder against Antonio G. Schnell, who is supposed to be insane, will be heard to-day.

WELLINGTON, This Day. The first meeting of the. Middle Island Trunk Railway Extension Commission was held yesterday. The proceedings were formal.

TAUPO, This Day. A malicious injury to a horse belonging to Mr Gallagher, a publican, was discovered here last Sunday. The animal was found near Torleys Sanatorium, with its back cut open by a tomahawk. Two other valuable horses were found dead belonging to the same owner some few months ago.

DUNEDIN, This Day. Mr Seaton, M.H.R., is to be banquetted by his constituents. The second modified examination of the Pharmacy Board was held simultaneously in the four principal towns. AUCKLAND, This Day. Enquiries have been made for a young man named William Sisniecr (?), who was boots at the Northern Club for a period and porter at a cordial factory, and who was often hard-up. It appears he ran away from home through his guardian’s cruelty, and became apprentice on board the barque British Empire. He deserted from her, and is now supposed to be in New Caledonia. He is wanted as heir to a fortune of between £20,000 and £30,000.

Councillor Waddell, who is opposed to the Contagious Diseases Act, is being requisitioned to oppose Mr Clark for the Mayoralty. Scandal is busy with the name of a Presbyterian minister long resident in Christchurch, against whom some serious charges have been made. A man named James Farnell was killed through a fall of earth while working in a gravel pit at Winton yesterday.
