BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The usual meeting of the above Council was held last evening. Present—His Worship the Mayor, Crs. Townley, Clayton, Lewis, Tutchcn, Clarke, and Brown. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. Cr. Lewis moved the suspension of the Standing Orders No. 4, to take into consideration an application from Messrs Wilson and Friar to drive horses through the town before 8 a.m., and after 5 p.m. On the motion of Cr. Townley, seconded by Cr. Tutchen, the permission was granted subject to the by-law being adhered to. His Worship said that this was to be taken as a special permission. It was resolved that the Mayor and Councillors afford their patronage to a concert and dance to be held in Parnell and Boylan’s hull on the 9th November next, in aid of the funds of the Poverty Bay Hospital. Accounts.—Accounts to the amount of about £BO were passed for payment. Notice or Motion. —Cr. Clarke gave the following notice of motion:—“That the subject of the water supply to the Borough of Gisborne be reconsidered at the next meeting with the view of asking the ratepayers to sanction a sum not exceeding £12,000 upon the work. The Council then adjourned.
