LONDON, Oct. 6. A daring attempt to shoot a grazier aud two land agents has been made near Balliua, County Mayo, Ireland. The shots fired were unsuccessful, and the intended victims escaped. The total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is 1,950,000 quarters. Australian tallow—best beef, unchanged, 44s 6d ; best mutton advanced Is to 475. Best Sydney copra quoted at £9 10s, an advance of 10s. Galvanised iron, 26 guuge, remains at £l7 15. NEW YORK, Oct. 6. CAPETOWN, Oct. 6. ' Col. Gordon (Gordon Pasha) has resigned his position as Commandant of the Cape forces, owing to a difference with the Local Government. N.B.—The above telegrams have been delayed in transmission between Australia and New Zealand.
