The advertisement of Ihaka te Amo and Hirini Maru, having reference to certain proceedings by the New Zealand Land Settlement Company, was handed to us for translation and publication. Anyone wishing to inspect the same may do so on application to the Editor. Now is the time for sowing all kinds of Vegetable and Flower Seeds. Mr James Browne, Gladstone Road, informs us that he has just received a well carefully selected stock of Seeds for Spring and early Summer •owing.— Advt. Mr D. Johnston notifies that Imperial Army and Navy pensions due to residents of Cook County will be paid at the Custom House, Gisborne, on Monday, the 2nd day of October, 1882. During the day perfect clouds of dust have been wafted down Gladstone Road and other streets. The continuous fine weather has caused a lament amongst housekeepers, as the tanks are almost empty and the wellwater too hard for washing purposes. The farmers also grumble as they state that the ground is so baked and caked that the young grass has no opportunity of shooting up. It is to be hoped that after the autumn equinoctial gales have subsided there will be a good rainfall.

The members of the Gisborne Sailing Club meet to-night at the Masonic Hotel at halfpast seven o’clock for the adoption of rules and the election of officers. N ow that we have a number of boats owned by residents and that the summer season is rapidly approaching, this Club is likely to become most popular. We hope to see a large attendance this evening, and to be able to record the fact that several new members have joined. By the courtesy of Captain Andrew’s we have been supplied with the following weather telegrams. 22nd—3.56 p.m., watch barometer ; bad weather expected between N. and W, and S.W, Glass fall again very soon. 23rd—0.32 p, m. Watoh barometer; bad weather expected between West and S.W. and South j glass rise, and after 12 hours heavy sea. The tenders for tile draining at the new residence of Mr T. E. R. Bloomfield, and advertised by Messrs Wm. RatcHffe & Co., closed to-day, but we are informed will not be opened until Monday next. In reply to the enquiry made at this office yesterday respecting a loan granted by the Borough Council to a country resident, we have to state that the members of the Council considered the security ample, and now state their willingness to release the mortgage atparfwithout hesitation if the Council will hand it over. In one of Messrs Large and Townley’s windows this day there was a very fine display of oleographs and some Japanese fire screens The oleographs are from some of the best houses and are of the very latest importation. The price ranges from one shilling upwards. The Japanese fire screens are most elegant in design and are perfect pictures in themselves. We understand that Mr Townley has a very large assortment of oleographs and Japanese goods on hand, and from what we have seen, the articles will deeply repay any one who is a collector of works of arts of this description. Mr Townley also showed us a number of photographs of grave stones from the well known establishment of Mr W. Phillips of Melboumed. Messrs Large and Townley are the sole agents in Gisborne for Mr W. Phillips and any orders given there will meet with im- ! mediate attention. We are glad to learn that there are several special prizes at the forthcoming Agricultural ' Show for locally-manufactured agricultural I implements and local industries generally. This is an excellent project, and should add greatly to the popularity of the Society. Earl Derby, the handsome Clydesdale stallion, which was so much admired at the recent horse parade, is announced to stand this season at Mr Morrice's farm at Matawhero, will, in addition, travel the country. This horse’s service! will, no doubt, be secured by many of our country settlers, as he is grandly bred, and shows a quality which it is difficult to surpass. Mr Ewen Cameron, of Toanga, will ship 12 head of fat oattle and 260 sheep for Auckland by the s.s. Ringarooma to-morrow morning, if the weather proves to be at all favorable. Malls for Auckland, per Omapere, will close on Tuesday morning next, at 0 a. m. The date of the sailing of the s.s. Oreti has been altered from to-day until Monday in the afternoon.

Mr W. H. Pilllot was a through passenger yesterday by the s.s. Arawata from Auckland. He is now on his way to Christchurch. We were informed by Mr Pilllet that he was not afraid to meat his constituents of the St an in ore electorate, as he had at the present time a memorial signed by over 600 of the Stanmore electors who stated that they had perfect confidence in him, and approved of the action he had taken at the late session of the General Assembly- Mrs Pilliet acccompanied Mr Pilliet, and they both came ashore and expressed themselves highly pleased with our little township.
