[Reuter’s Telegrams.] SYDNEY. Arrival of Sir Hoary Parkes August 17. Sir He>’ry Parkes arrived here to-day, and was accorded an enthusiastic reception. The Mayor presented an address of welcome. A banquet in his honor was held this evening at the Exhibition buildings, and was a great success. This Day. The banquet given to Sir Henry Parkes at the Exhibition Buildings last night was a great success. 365 leading citizens were present, and Sir Henry Parkes made elaborate speech in reply to the toast of his health. John Davies, C.M.G., has resigned his seat on the Licensing Bench. MELBOURNE. Musical Festival Association August 16. His Excellency the Governor presided at a meeting which was held this evening for the purpose of organising a Musical Festival Association on a model of those held periodically at Worcester and Glouster in England, A resolution in favor of the object of the meeting was warmly supported. ADELAIDE. This Day. Forsyth, one of the defendants in the In* suvancc frauds, who absconded but subsequently surrendered himself, has been sentenced to 2 years’ imprisonment.
