House of Representatives. The House met at 2.30.

Replying to questions put, it was stated that the Trust Commissioner at Gisborne had refused to accept declaration forms unless issued from his office, his object being to prevent the information required by these forms from being tampered with. On the motion of Mr McDonald a bill for the settlement of Native claims in the Mohaka and Waikau districts was read the first time.

In committee. On the Hokitika High School Bill Mr Petrie opposed, contending that the School would simply benefit Hokitika, and could not in any way be regarded as a West Coast Institute. He moved a number of amendments, with the view of leaving the situation of the School an open question, and also with the view of reducing the amount available for its establishment to £5OO. These were all negatived on the division.

Business was interrupted by the 5.30 adjournment.

At ths evening sitting, Mr Seddon moved the withdrawal of his Bills to regulate Mining on Harbor, Education, and Water Ease Reserves. Mr Dick moved that Colonel Trimble take the chair in Committee owing to the absence of Mr Hamlin. Mr Shrinuki objected on account of Col. Trimble's ruling and manner the previous evening. Messrs Turnbull, Fish, J. Buchanan, Sir George Grey, and others objected to Colonel Trimble as Chairinan, and two hours discussion ensued as to liis conduct in tho Chair tho previous night. Mr Sheehan, Weston, Sir John Hall, and others defending Col. Trimble. Ultimately all opposition was withdrawn, and Colonel Trimble took the chair, when the Coroners’ Bill was passed through Committee, the number of the jury being fixed at six, of whom five must agree. The Bill was road a third time and passed. After the usual adjournment, a motion by Mr Holmes to re-commit Sir G. Grey's Law Practitioners' Bill, and to strike out Clause 3, was, after long discussion, carried by 33 to 29. In committee a further long discussion took place, and ultimately progress was reported, and the House rose at 2.2. Plnuiolal Swaration of both Zslui&o. In th® House to-day Mr Driver gave notice to move, on going Into Committee of Supply, a resolution affirming the necessity for the immediate fianancial separation between tho two Islands, and that a Royal Commission should be appointed to determine the terms of such separation, and that a Bill be introduced next session to carry out tho report,
