[from our own correspondent], Wellington, June 30. McDonald’s Native Lands Bill passed through Committee last night. The Harbor and Foreshore Bill is still in the hands of the Government, on account of Major Atkinson’s illness. Col. Whitmore and Mr A. McDonald are doing their best to get a gun for the Gisborne Volunteer Artillery. The Government are going to bring in a Native Lands Bill too, but, it is not printed yet. The Chief Justice (Sir James Prendergast) took theoath as Administiator of the Government yesterday, at Government House, before Mr Justice Richmond. It is not the present intention of the Home Government to fill Sir A. Gordon’s place until his halfyear’s leave is about to expire. The assumption of the Government of New Zealand by Sir James Prendergast, Chief Judge, is gazetted. Auckland, June 80.
Joseph Tye, a gentlemen well known in sporting circles, died a few days since at Epsom. Mr Tye was a keen sportsman and judge of horses. He was originally the owner of Agent known as the invincible steeplechaser. Poor Joe is regretted by numerous friends.
H.M.S. Nelson was inspected by about 2000 persons yesterday. Commodore Erskine and his officers accompanied by the members of the Harbor Board, took a trip round the harbor in the p.s. Victoria. A shooting match between Marines and Blue Jackets resulted in favor of the Marines by 62 pointe.
The murderer Winiat* was broughtj up yesterday and remanded until 7tM prox. Mr Dufaur is retained defence. / The question of tramways for Auckfl land was discussed last night in the! City Council, and q.report of proposals,! etc., was ordered tK> be printed. J Eliza Davidson, of x Newmarket, ha® been committed for biyamy.
