SPORTING.
SETTLING NIGHT OF THE MA KARA KA MEE TIN G. The attendance at Makaraka on Wednesday evening lust was not large, but the settling was very satisfactory. The following amounts were handed to the successful owners of winning horses:—Mr D. Page, £33 14s Cd ; Mr A. McDonald, £23 15s: Mr S. C. Caulton, £l9 ; M. T. E. IL Bloomfield, £3 6s Cd.—Total £92 3s. Tho usual concomitants of such an occasion were liberally supplied, and Mr Jas. Scott’s courtesy and attention were all that could bo desired. Tho supper was a most agreeable adjunct to the evenings amusements, and tho manner in which it was served occasioned very many complimentary remarks. It was expected that a settlement of a disputed bot would have been decided by the stewards, but there was no quorum, and tho matter had pro tern to be allowed to rest.
