SPORTING.
We learn from a reliable source that Mr T. E. R. Bloomfield has leased the well-known horse I)i rector from Mr W. C. Walsh. This horse has always been a popular favorite, and should for his interim owner, land a few satisfactory stakes. Fit and well there are few horses in the Bay to successfully compete with him. (From Exchanges.) Jimmy Ashworth now acts as Clerk of the Course at Rand wick. Nearly all the Australian winners Of the season are of “ Panic ” stock. “ Kelpie ” a son of “ Weatherbit,” and the sire of “ Fireworks ” died at Tocal, New South Wales, a few days ago. Mr John Tait, the well-known Sydney sportsman has signified his intention of retiring from the turf. This is a matter of regret for all lovers of racing. A Steeplec' ase Meeting is to be held in Napier on the 28th June, (Coronation Day), on the Hastings Course. The following is the programme :—Maiden Hurdles of 30 sovs., miles ; 11. B. Steeplechase of 100 sovs., 3 miles ; Maiden Steeplechase of 50 sovs., 2 miles; Hack Hurdles of 20 sovs., once round the course ; Coronation Handicap of 60 sovs., 2 miles.
