CORRESPONDENCE.

[We do not hold ourselves responsible for opinions expressed by our correspondents .J STREET CROSSINGS. TO THE EDITOR. Sib,—The Borough Council has caused crossings to be made in various parts of Gladstone Road, and every praise is due to that body for thus studying the comfort of the ratepayers. But Gladstone Road is not the only thoroughfare which needs treating in this manner. The by-roads are traversed by a large number of people, and by the bulk of the children going to and from school; yet no provision is made to enable them to cross the streets without wading through pools of mud and water. No wonder that colds are so prevalent among the rising generation when they are continually subject to wet feet through the neglect of the “ City Fathers.” It should be remembered that Gladstone Road is no more Gisborne than Queenstreet is Auckland, and that the other portions of the town are entitled to a fair consideration. It happens unfortunately, that the interests of the present Councillors is centered in the heart of the town, or in the immediate vicinity of the main road. Still I. trust that they will take the hint herein offered and look a little beyond their own personal requirements.—lam, &c., Paiejj.
